Frozen food
Frozen plant-based meals and prepared vegetables. Shelf life is itself a food-loss measure.
Why frozen counts
Freezing is a practical way to cut household food waste: you take out what you need, so less is thrown away than with fresh produce. Nutritionally, vegetables frozen soon after harvest can compare well with fresh produce that has spent days in distribution.
What to check
- Country of origin
- Whether it is seasoned or plain
- The specified thawing method — it affects quality
- Packaging, and how much plastic it uses
