What it is
VEGHEET is made by pureeing vegetables, drying them and forming them into thin sheets. Carrot, tomato and spinach each give a different colour and flavour, and the sheets are used as wrappers or as a garnish.
The raw material is vegetables rejected on size or shape. Giving a use to produce that is perfectly good but hard to sell has made it a frequently cited example of food loss reduction in Japanese media.
Background
It is manufactured by Takeshita Sangyo Co., Ltd. of Hirado City, Nagasaki. The company's original expertise is in seaweed processing, and VEGHEET began as an application of that drying and forming technology to vegetables.
