Made with welfare workplaces

Goods produced in partnership with workplaces employing people with disabilities.

How it works

Japan operates a system of employment support workplaces (Type A and Type B) for people with disabilities. A significant amount of food and household goods production and packing happens in them. Wages in Type B workplaces have long been low, which means that creating a sales channel is itself a form of support.

That puts two questions on the same product: is it good, and does the partnership mean something? For a buyer, the useful test is whether the chain runs “buy it because it is good, and support follows” rather than the other way round.

What to check

  • Which workplace performs which step
  • Whether the product's quality is described on its own terms
  • Whether there is any explanation of pricing or how it reaches wages
  • Whether the relationship is ongoing or a one-off project
